WHAT IS A COMMUNITY GROUP? Community Groups are a vital component in the life of Redeemer Presbyterian Church. Through small groups, individuals are able to explore God’s word in the context of genuine care for one another. It is within these small communities that men and women can build personal relationships and practice applying the gospel to their lives. Each group expects to experience Jesus Christ in its midst, enabling participants to be transformed through mutual ministry and to experience life in the family of God. Composed of eight to fifteen people, groups meet in homes throughout the Athens area. All groups are led by trained lay-leaders from the congregation who receive continued oversight and support from our pastoral staff. Groups meet weekly for worship, bible study, fellowship and prayer. The goal of our community groups is fellowship around scripture. It is our belief that genuine community is developed as people study God’s word and seek to apply the Gospel in our commitments to one another. Many groups also participate in regular service projects or social events as we seek to be salt and light for Athens. Community groups provide a place not only of discovery but also sanctuary from the pressures and anxieties of life. Many strong and lasting friendships are the product of healthy small groups. As God made us for community, we need others to help us apply the gospel to our lives. Our hope is that everyone who attends our church will be involved in a Community group. Attached Documents
